Surviving Hendra
Written by Rural Press Club
Thursday, 06 November 2008
The latest outbreak of the deadly Hendra virus has tragically taken the life of a young Brisbane vet, killed at least five horses, and left the owner of the Redlands Veterinary Clinic, Dr David Lovell with a financial and legal nightmare. David will share his ‘Hendra experience’ with the Rural Press Club and joining him will be the world’s leading authority on Hendra virus, CSIRO virologist, Dr Linfa Wang.

Dr Wang leads the scientific charge to understand how and why bats carry this virus and others also lethal to humans such as SARS and Nipah, yet remain unaffected themselves. He is also part of the urgent global search for a vaccine or other treatments to prevent future human fatalities.

What: Surviving Hendra
Who: Dr David Lovell, Redlands Veterinary Clinic and Dr Linfa Wang, CSIRO virologist
When: Thursday 13 November networking from noon with lunch at 12.30pm
Where: United Service Club 183 Wickham Terrace, Brisbane
Cost: $60 per person or $440 for a table of 8
