Dayboro Cow Horse Club sure know how to put on a good day! Competitors flocked in from far and wide to the club's first official Team Penning Day on Saturday 18th October 2008. With 77 teams travelling from Beaudesert, Minden, Gympie, Kilkivan and surrounds. Judge Mark Rodgers from Gympie praised the competitors on their technique and especially to how well they treated the cattle, supplied by Dayboro Pastoral Co. and commented that these are the things that make days like this fantastic and the sport can continue to be enjoyed. There were a range of teams and levels, beginners getting out there and having one seriously fun day, kids proving their future potential and plenty of competitive and exciting trio's providing thrilling entertainment for all the spectators, especially in the top ten qualifiers for the final. Gympie/Minden dynamic "Fill Up" - Belinda Butterfield, Wayne Bell and Ken Howes came out on top beating the young sister duo Katie and Chelsea Bartlett with their third team member John Rutley. They should also be really pleased with such a great result. If there was a trophy for best presented, I'm sure The Rouseabouts would have won it with their lovely ladies and pretty (and also very capable) horses. Fastest qualifier for the finals at 0.48.10 was one of the Fill Up teams, Ken Howes, Graeme Stevens and Patrick Black. Club President John Lautenbach with Tina Wells made sure everyone would have a good day, Chrissy Hutchinson's help was also appreciated. There were plenty of prizes, great food and after the event entertainment organised at the showgrounds. The major sponsor for the event was Goanna Earthmoving along with Brisbane RV's, Minden Barn, Western World Saddlery, Blue Creek Saddles and Tack, Rayview Produce, Old Mill Pet and Livestock Supplies, Horseland Strathpine and KC Saddlery. GWE sponsored the junior competition with Rodgers getting everyone to give the juniors a round of applause to their future of Team Penning. The fantastic support from these sponsors enabled the prizes of $1200, trophy + perpetual trophy, prizes including feed + rugs for the winners, lucky herd and encouragement award prizes were also given to other competitors. If you've never been involved in Team Penning and you want to join a really friendly and fun club, contact Dayboro Cow Horse Club www.dchc.com.au to find out more information. The next major Team Penning day with lots more great prizes will be held in March 2009. In the meantime, the club will be having regular Team Penning events so come along and check it out! |
