The latest outbreak of the deadly Hendra virus has tragically taken the life of a young Brisbane vet, killed at least five horses, and left the owner of the Redlands Veterinary Clinic, Dr David Lovell with a financial and legal nightmare. David will share his ‘Hendra experience’ with the Rural Press Club and joining him will be the world’s leading authority on Hendra virus, CSIRO virologist, Dr Linfa Wang. Dr Wang leads the scientific charge to understand how and why bats carry this virus and others also lethal to humans such as SARS and Nipah, yet remain unaffected themselves. He is also part of the urgent global search for a vaccine or other treatments to prevent future human fatalities.
