AHIC SURVEY ON SOME POSSIBLE FUTURE DIRECTIONS FOR THE AUSTRALIAN HORSE INDUSTRY PDF Print E-mail
Written by AHIC
Tuesday, 01 July 2008

Reminder - Survey Closes 5:00PM Friday July 4 2008

This is the latest in a series of surveys of participants in the Australian horse industry. Previous surveys have provided valuable information to AHIC and governments about effects of the Equine Influenza (EI) incursion and emergency response. These surveys have given an insight into the true extent of the effects of the EI outbreak.

All the evidence is that EI has been eradicated and Australia will be declared free from EI on 30 June 2008 unless something untoward happens in the next few days.

The national horse industry must now take note of the lessons learned over the past few months and prepare for the future.

This survey canvasses opinions on a number of issues that have been raised in recent times.

Information requested through the survey canvasses ideas about the effects of the EI infection, effects of the EI emergency response (which might have been separate from the clinical disease for some people), and identification and registration of horses. There are also questions about a levy to enable the horse industry to become a signatory to the Emergency Animal Disease Response Agreement.

AHIC is very appreciative of your participation in these surveys. I urge you to continue to provide valuable information for AHIC by completing this current survey. All information provided is confidential as has been the case with all the previous surveys.

AHIC would be grateful if you could bring this survey to the attention of your horse industry contacts so that as many people as possible can provide their own information. The more people who complete the survey, the better.
